You have to wait until around mid afternoon for the autumn sun to migrate far enough around to the side to give angular backlighting to the golden larch, but on a still autumn day the canopy can be beautifully doubled up in reflection against the darkened slopes of the mountain. This is about the optimum point where backlighting is strongly evident yet flare is well controlled. Careful lens shading is paramount here.
