Rippled Gold Vollen

Vollen, Lofoten, Norway.

The meandering lines of these tidal channels lap at the edges of snow flattened grass that has the most beautiful and seductive texture like the matted fur of a lion. This is greatly enhanced when some staggeringly beautiful early morning honey coloured light briefly escapes from behind grey cloud side lighting every grass tussock and turning it into a field that literally ripples with gold. The icing on the cake (quite literally) is the sugar dusting of new frost which is responsible for picking up the reflected blue of skylight in the shadows between the grass hummocks presenting superb colour contrast.
