At the extremities of low tide I wandered out as far as i was able to explore the coast of the red sand beach at Gruinard Bay and found the deep red sand I was looking for and some immaculate untouched tidal patterns of paler sand forming vaguely triangular shapes etched into the sand. It reminded me of drawn icing on the top of one of those puff pastry cream cakes that you used to see at the bakers. The combination of dark red sand, sulky blue skies and turquoise tinted sea proved a compelling palette.
