Cry Freedom

Durness, Sutherland, Scotland

I was travelling north for a short holiday with my wife and two children and we found some stunning beaches around Durness including this glorious red sand beach. Naturally enough my kids were fairly champing at the bit to get down onto that perfect unblemished beach and place sandcastles all over it. I managed to take two shots without anyone present, but I couldn't manage to convey the atmosphere so I decided to take a creative role and added vaseline to a filter thinly spread vertically along its length, at once I was enamoured, but it was this shot with my wife and two children that delights me most and conveys the message most strongly.
