Dawn Symphony

Portknockie, Moray, Scotland

A sunrise of this intensity and colour is a pretty rare thing and I spent the best part of a month planning it. First the sunrise position needed to be close to the rock arch of Bowfiddle rock, secondly I needed a weather window and third I wanted the thrift on the cliff tops to reach full bloom. As luck would have it the sunrise was stunning. The only improvement for me would have been a higher tide to capitalise on the reflective properties of the churning tides and thus minimise the black rock outcrops.

This is a re-scanned picture after i discovered nearly 2mm of dust had accumulated on the primary mirror of my Nikon 9000ED scanner. The difference is nothing short of astonishing.

I looked at this first using Internet Explorer and felt it was OK but not really the special image that Ian makes it out to be. I then switched to Firefox (which is a colour managed browser) and wow! Stunning. Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive?
