A vicious hoar frost had lingered all day in the Spey valley near the river and coated every branch twig and tree. I saw this little birch plantation and shimmied up a short incline to get amongst them and waited until the last possible moment to photograph them in the last vestiges of winter sunlight, delighting in the way that they turned to the colour of burnished gold.
