Pet First Aid Class

On 1-28-06 the Humane Society again teamed up with the American Red Cross to offer an Emergency First Aid class for pets. The class was taught by Shawn Maxwell who is certified by the American Red Cross to teach emergency first aid for pets. Filming was done during the class for the Humane Society's TV show, Humanely Speaking, which airs M-W-F at 12:30 and again at 7:30 on channel 15 of Murray Electric's cable TV. Students learned techniques and information that is vital when caring for an injured animal. Just a few of the topics included muzzling an animal, CPR, splinting, accidental poisoning and many others. The class met for four hours and proved to be a learning experience for all. Mocha, a Chocolate Laborador Retriever and certified Pet Therapy Dog, attended the class with her owner and graciously allowed the instructor to use her for demonstrations throughout the class. Mocha did demand extra petting and stomach scratching for her services though. Anyone interested in signing up for the next class can call Kathy at the Humane Society office at 759-1884.
