This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Blessing of the Animals that is held each year in the Memorial Garden of St. John's Episcopal Church, 1620 West Main St., Murray, Ky. The event celebrates the Feast Day of St. Francis, the 12th century Patron Saint of Animals. Pets or their photos receive individual blessings from Rt. Rev. David Simmons, Rector of St. John's. In the past, animals have included lizards, goldfish, a snake, a chinchilla, hamsters, guinea pigs, and once, a horse. But the majority of the pets are, not surprisingly, dogs and cats -- quite diverse in themselves.
