Rothenburg ob der Tauber, is Germany's best preserved and most enchanting medieval town. Its perfect state of perservation is in part due to its having survived the Thirty-Year's War intact. Rothenburg was also known by romantic artists and writers in the 19th century as the "Epitone of Germanic Medievalism".
