This was the result of just a two-hour stroll on Tussac Point close to the Falklands capital, Stanley. It made me want to go back on a longer bird watching visit to the islands, which have a great reputation amongst birders. The birds we saw mostly seemed fairly unbothered by the presence of humans - whether this is so for a broader spectrum of species here, I cannot say. It certainly made life easier for the photographer, even if it was a very grey morning.

And no trees on the islands -- so no hunting for birds in the forest canopy!

I particularly liked the Red-backed Hawk, also known locally as Buzzard, which is one of just a handful of raptors found within the sub-Antarctic islands and the Falklands.
