Climbing up on Winter Ridge, I pause for this scene of Summer Lake shimmering in the background. The whole ridge suffered a devastating fire recently. "Smokey the Bear" kept this area fire-free for 50 years, so when it did burn, there was plenty of fuel and it burned hot. Most of the tall pines were killed.
