In the morning, an Indian Christian driver showed us around the KL downtown. He had most of his children in college and was very proud of them.
And in the afternoon, another driver took us with four other people around the outskirts of KL. BTW, "kuala" means "where the waters meet" and "lumpur" means "mud", I was told.
The Malay vocabulary is kind of interesting. I guess, it's the influence from the colonial days, but a lot of the modern words seem to come directly from the west. For example, "teksi" for taxi, "akitek" for architect, etc. The roman alphabets are used more like pronunciation symbols. :)
There were quite a few westerners walking around the downtown, but none of them were Americans, I think. They seemed mostly Europeans. I think it's because the relationship between Malaysia and the U.S. hasn't been that good, especially after the 9-11 incidents.
Anyway, after the tour, we went out looking for a Japanese restaurant. I found one called Ozeki, but interestingly it was a Japanese-Western fusion restaurant. It was kind of interesting, I thought, but I think I'd prefer plain sushi...
