From the walks booklet: "Chilmark is renowned for fine stone; its links with quarrying date back to Roman times and across the ages provided material for many buildings, including Salisbury Cathedral. The walk contrasts wide open landscapes along the Ox Drove with the picturesque Teffont villages nestling beside the Teff stream."
The wonderful weather gave me the opportunity to mess around with the wide-angle lens on my Coolpix 5700, as well (...not to mention just a little tinkering in Photoshop afterwards...)!
Thank you for the excellent photos of St. Margaret of Antioch Church, Chilmark. One of my ancestors, Mary Mist married William Privett in the 1700's.. She was from Amesbury, Wiltshire. This William Privett the elder was a stone mason. Their son, also William Privett, worked at Stourhead on the Temple of Flora, the grotto and the obilisk, as well as the wooden bridge to the grotto. The beautiful Privett table tomb is right by the door of St. Margaret's Church. I believe that it was carved by William Privett the younger.
