According to the National Trust, this is a "magnificent house and grounds in the style of a 16th-century French château, [which was] built for the Rothschilds in the late 19th century.... [It contains] a world-renowned collection of French furniture, paintings and decorative arts; [and is] an extraordinary testimony to Victorian taste, technology and wealth...".
(Originally, they thought it too "grotesque" to take on...!)
