The touch of a vanished hand
30 November 2005 (75)

Fovant, Salisbury, UK

I go into hospital tomorrow -- only for the afternoon, thank goodness... -- for some diagnostic procedures on my neck that may eventually lead to surgery.
Nothing to worry about, really. But one of the symptoms that's led me here is an increasing lack of knowledge (without actually looking at or for it)
of where my left hand is, spatially... -- a sort of reverse phantom limb syndrome.
(So it may take me a couple of days to get back to my PaD....)

Inspired by the four 'Signal' prints (1996), by Ruth Beardsworth: Scottish printmaker extraordinaire.

Excellent image. I like how you composed it, and how you made the focus on the books. This blurred hand trying to reach books... is really expressive.

Excellent symbolism. I hope it goes well for you, and that you don't get the infamous NHS runaround.

Good luck at the hospital. I like the photo BTW. It is a cross between which book do I pick and oh my there is a creepy band type of photo. Nicely done. I love the grain.
