My 'significant other' (for want of a better description...) brought over this 125-year-old (or so) patchwork (created by some distant relative),
to tidy up: with a view to displaying it as a wall hanging; and her first task (shown here!) is to remove the original tacking stitches,
without damaging the old fabric -- something that takes a lot of both patience and skill....
