From the National Trust guidebook:
At the far end of Well Court, an old cow-byre houses some of the
items from Charles Wade's collection that were too large to fit in the house.
A shrine to the Virgin Mary is mounted in the gable, from which the byre takes its name --
Sancta Maria. This statue was carved in teak by A. Dapre, the same craftsman
who made the statue of St George.
