With a population of around 20, Fifield Bavant is a very, very small village about two miles south of Fovant.
In 1801, the population was 42; but in 1086 -- according to the Domesday Book -- it was only 18: three servants, nine 'villains' (villagers), and six 'borderers' (smallholders).
To the south and south-west of the church -- on either side of the River Ebble -- can be seen earthworks, which indicate the former extent of the village.
