Esperance > Perth

Hello from Perth - 4500 ks since we started!

We arrived last night in stifling heat, and after 10 days in the bush, we're treating ourselves to a proper campground - with pool, internet connection, a toaster (for my vegemite toast!!), showers and a laundry we're cleaning up and catching up and it feels like luxury!!

We've just spent the last few days with our Melbourne friends Angelique and Nico, going from Esperance in the South West with it's incredible turquoise waters and white sands, to Walpole closer to the west coast, with the giant karri and tingle trees and deep flowing rivers. We've been spoilt with fantastic weather, incredible west-Australian skies that stretch on forever and fantastically-equipped campsites in the National Parks.

Before meeting Nico and Angelique, we had 2 days of endless driving across dry and brown south Australia then we stopped for three wonderful days in Coffin Bay National Park. We were treated to displays from emus, parrots, inquisitive roos, sea lions, rays and dolphins and Flo just had to get the fishing rod out of the car for a salmon to jump onto the end of it! After that little corner of paradise, we had another extreme 2 days driving for the epic crossing of the Nullarbor. We're very glad that we fixed the aircon before leaving and that the ipod is fully loaded with about 7000 songs as I think we got through almost all of them during those couple of days!

J It's a dramatic landscape, in the day with the windswept clouds and endless plains, as well as at twilight with the amazing pinks and purples over the Great Australian Bight and roos, dingoes and foxes starting to come out to hunt.
Big Mama is going well (apart from the signpost on the 4wd track that suffered a little - ask Flo!) and despite being covered from roof rack to wheels in exploded locusts, everything is working fine!

Take a look at our pictures though to get a better idea, as we are keen to get into Perth - we've put on our most presentable 'city' clothes and are looking forward to our first proper cappucino of the trip!
