The bridges of Budapest, both landmarks and delightful vantage points over the Danube, are stitches that have bound Buda and Pest together since well before the two were linked politically. There are a total of nine spans, including two railroad bridges, but thoses in the very centre stand ahead and shoulders the rest. All were left in ruins by the retreating Nazis in January 1945 but have since been rebuilt.
