Queen's Pier, the traditional landing point for visiting dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana, is set to be dismantled at the end of July 2007 to make way for a bypass. A hard core of local activists has for months camped out at Queen's Pier, which has become a symbol of increased awareness that the former British colony's architectural heritage is vanishing, in a bid to save the historic pier threatened with demolition.
