Monfrague national park is located north of Trujillo on the road to Plasencia. The old castle Castillo de Monfrague which is a ruined Muslim fort from the 9th century is a specially intereting place. The vultures circle in quite large numbers around the nearby cliffs and the castle. There is an kind of Tolkien fealing about the place early in the morning when the early strays of sunlight hit the cliffs and the castle.
