The Jefferson Market Courthouse is currently a branch of the New York Public Library system. It is located in Greenwich Village on Sixth Avenue between 8th & 10th streets. On 8th street there is a lovely community garden where the former Women's Detention Center was located. The public library and garden certainly changed the character and ambience on this corner of Manhattan. The building badly needs repair attention. Scaffolding has surrounded it for at least the past year with little work being done to complete planned restorations.
