Coleen, Camellias in our neighborhood are quite rare. I've only seen them growing unprotected with this particular bush. It grows very close to the NYU gymnasium wall generally away from the bitter cold winds. A gardener in the LaGuardia Corner Gardens has a lovely red camellia bush that she carefully wraps when freezing temperatures are prevalent. There are a few camellia bushes in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden that I believe may not be wrapped during freezes. It is wonderful to see this bush in bloom at Christmas time.
