This row of dead and diseased hawthorn trees shows years of NYU's neglect in maintaining this cherished garden. Normally this time of the year, these trees would be loaded with brilliant fall foliage and abundant berries for the bird population. A recently approved NYC/NYU Expansion Plan calls for the total destruction of this garden and other gardens, childrens' playgrounds and park strips in the area that will destroy over 400 mature trees and several thousand plants.
