With an incomplete ongoing renovation of Washington Square Park for at least the last 4 years, NYC & NYU succeeded in destroying a large number of scholar trees that surrounded the fountain plaza (and were interspersed throughout the park) for a huge concrete plaza to accommodate NYU graduation ceremonies and more difficult to maintain grass areas in the park. Now the NYU administration wants to destroy over 200 mature trees, priceless park strips, children's playgrounds and gardens in their two super blocks just south of the park for the NYU2031 Plan that according to solid scientific evidence, such actions contribute to global warming and the loss of life in the neighborhood and on our planet.
Isn't it ironic, if not ignorance, that NYC and NYU, a leading city of our world with the headquarters of the United Nations and an institution of higher education such as NYU, would allow this?
