Numerically the wildebeest dominate the Serengeti during the
migration, with up to 1,500,000 animals in scattered herds
feeding on the ephemeral short grass and synchronizing the
birth of their calves. Yet for all their success they are nutty
animals given to fits of leaping and aimless exuberant running,
like this one. Whenever I see an image like this I think of the
famous ancient cave paintings in places like Lascaux.
