When the serval leapt after the mouse I watched carefully. I knew
if he kept his head down and moving he had missed, but if he lifted
his head I knew he had pinned the mouse and was looking to see if it
was safe to eat it.
To my surpise he did not gulp the mouse immediately but instead nipped
it by the back and carried it around for a bit, showing off for us and
giving us a chance to get some wonderful photos in great early light.
This was one of our best safari memories since servals are usually shy and
nocturnal, and photographing one hunting was a great treat.
