These lions are nearing the end of their reign
over the Marsh pride. They have been in power 3 1/2
years, time to raise two generations of cubs to adulthood,
but the injury to one of their members likely signals
that their time in power is about over.
The first year we saw them the pride had eight cubs about
1.5 years old and eight cubs 3 months old. A year later
we saw them with five more small cubs. This last litter
will not survive unless the males stay in control for another
year, but the grown cubs from the first two litters mean
these males's genes will be passed on.
