Sudhan Gali

There are several bungalows here belonging to the Tourism dep. However, it is near impossible to obtain accommodation at this place (or any other tourist lodges). When you ask the employees, you are told to go and make a booking in Bagh! The employees are not really interested in helping out the tourists because it means they have to do some work (why should they, they get paid anyway). This means travelling for about one hour to Bagh and making a booking if their office is open. Of course, if you are clever and know the local custom, you can do a private under-hand deal with the employees. For ordinary tourists, like myself, it is impossible to obtain accommodation here. Majority of tourists who come here, stay for a few minutes and travel on. In effect, this bungalow at Sudhan Gali and other places are just expensive lodgings for travelling civil servants who know how to manipulate the employees and stay for free. Vast majority of real tourists are denied access to these lodges.

This rest house in Sudhan Gali is most of the times occupied for reasons other than tourism, for keeping supplies, etc by a local supporters of Sardar Qamar Zaman, a politician, who is also the leader of PPP (AJK Chapter). This man visits this place so often that it is like his own home so, for that reason it is off limits to ordinary tourists as well. Just in front of this beautiful rest house, Qamar Zaman has started construction of a house for himself which is on government property and against the law. Upon protest from locals, Qamar Zaman and his supporters threatened them. While I do not know the latest whether he completed the construction of his house there or not, it is a well known fact that he started it about a year ago. This is the most shameful act from an elected leader who is acting like a land grabber/mafia, building house where ever he pleases. he has several other properties near Bagh city as well. What kind of examples are these leaders setting for ordinary people? This man is the *** politician one would come across and needs to be stopped before he destroyes everything.

it is such a lovely place and if Govt is serious enough the promotion of tourism can add to our revenue but alas such an inconvenience to tourists will only demote the tourism.we have beautiful spots in ajk to attract lots of tourists and we should do somethin positive.
