This old mill city was the first planned industrial city in the US. It was laid out on three canals, designed for water power to drive many mills. Waves of immigrants have worked in these mills, and then moved on and assimilated while another wave takes their place. Currently, the city is 50% Hispanic, with left-over remanants of earlier waves (French, Irish, Polish) accounting for the other half.
