What a hidden jewel this memorial is, and what a tragedy that successive regimes of Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush II have chosen barely to identify it on the maps (no pictures or symbols like the others) and even more strangely, to have posted no entranceway signage. You literally can be standing in front of the entrance walkway and not know what it is. Politics, anyone?
One visit to this place, and you will understand why Roosevelt is revered as the father of the modern Democratic Party, and why his greatness is assured for future generations. The sit consists of four large stone "rooms" or plazas, with connecting ways and interspersed gardens, all containing quotations cut into the stone, and bronze statues paying homage to the man and his administration. I've shot most of the substance, but you've got to be there in person to feel the awe and admire the beauty of the place. This should be a must-see on any pilgrmage to Washington.
