Northward Building and Alaskan Motor Inn
The Northward building on 3rd Avenue was built in 1951.
It was one of the first skyscrapers in Fairbanks, and one of the first buildings with an elevator.
Author Edna Ferber made the Northward famous in her book titled 'The Ice Palace'.
Local businessmen invested over three million US dollar in the Northward.
The building occupies a whole city block. It has eight floors.
There used to be a modern shopping mall on the ground floor.
