Joop in Norway #05
Beauty and the beast...
When I first saw them I thought they looked somewhat kitchy.
But trolls and witches are part of Norwegian folklore.
And they are good for the tourist trade as a source of income:
humans visiting Norway like to buy small wooden trolls to take home as souvenirs.
Shops that sell them often put a big troll on the sidewalk in front.
Trolls have to be either ugly or funny or both. In the old folk tales they have
yellowish skin, pot bellies, long noses, coarse scruffy hair, sometimes long tufted tails
and always an attitude and a bad temper. I marked quite a few of them.
Funny how humans sometimes insist on beauty, and sometimes fall in love with ugliness.
To a dog like me that is all the same.
