De Sint Janskerk is in de 13e eeuw gebouwd in in de jaren 1963-1969 gerestaureerd. Het is de oudste kerk van Terschelling.
Bij de kerk staat de 'sjouw' of 'tijdbal', een gevlochten tenen bal die dagelijks om half 12 aan een mast gehesen werd
om aan het werkvolk en de boeren aan te geven dat het middagpauze was. Ook de melktijd 's middags werd aangegeven.

Next to the church you can see an old 'sjouw', a 'time ball' that was raised in the old days at 11.30 AM to indicate it was
time for lunch. In the afternoon it was raised to indicate the time for milking the cows.
