A Horned Grebe swims on Shrock Lake in Sharon Woods Metro Park near Columbus, Ohio. I had difficulty identifying this
Grebe because its plumage is in transition from its winter plumage (white cheeks and throat capped by a black crown, nape
and back) to its breeding plumage (chestnut foreneck and sides, black cheeks and back with golden "horns" above its eyes).
The Horned Grebe isn't common in this area, but is migrating from the southeastern United States toward northwestern
Canada and Alaska for the summer. Thanks to the experts at BirdForum.net for assisting with the identification.
