Veszprém's castle district, which sits in the middle of the city on a large dolomite outcrop, is one Hungary's most accessible and best preserved. It consists of one long street lined with medieval and Baroque buildings, at the end of which is a spectacular vista of the city and distant countryside. It was interesting to walk through, but it didn't exactly wow me (plus photos were difficult between the narrow streets and a big festival stage being set up in the main square). I did, however, quite enjoy the rest of the city below, where I found some wonderful architecture and lots of people enjoying the festival and strolling along the pedestrian streets. The next time I'm in the area I hope to photograph the castle district from a road I know that runs parallel with it; otherwise, it's simply impossible to get a feeling of how this castle area sits high above the city.
An eye-opening gallery, for I haven't heard of this place. For me, castles and classical architecture are the two main attractions of Europe. Hope I'll have a chance to visit this part of Hungary one day. ~V~
