The Mosque Church

The Ottoman Turks ruled Hungary for 150 years, and Pécs was one of their main cities. There are two existing mosques in town; this one, now called the Mosque Church (Dzámi Templom, amazingly close to the Turkish "camii" for mosque), was converted into a church in the early 18th century; the minaret was torn down in 1753 and replaced with a bell tower.

The last time we were in Pécs this was closed, but this time we managed to get there earlier enough to visit. The interior was a fascinating blend of Muslim mosque and Christian church, but was incredibly hard to photograph due to the lack of light.
