Reminder: 2,500 kilometers on the road

Somewhere on the road in western Turkey

Some people, at least in the States, have never seen anything like this, so I'm posting this sort of as a joke and partially because my mother-in-law's friends were curious to see what a non-Western-style toilet was like in Turkey. (They are the same in Japan, FWIW.) Not intending any disrespect, but this is just the way it is :-).

We call it, in Arabian countries, Hammam Arabi (Arabian toilet), and the other Afranji toilet (Western toilet).
Just as the guest said, it is very useful at public places since you do not have to touch anything, and it is quite easy to wash and clean them.
They are still being used at public places in my country, but at minority in private houses.

Hehhe... most of us in Turkey never used this before but ofcourse this is a reality because this comes from the history... We call this kind of toilets alaturka-à la turque and other western style is alafranga... In public toilets this is a more sterile style coz at least u dont need to touch anything... ;-)

These were used during the Ottoman era. Today, they are at a minority.

Is the use of this facility gender linked?
