Bridge of Sighs

The Bridge of Sighs is an enclosed bridge is made of white limestone, has windows with stone bars, passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. It was designed by Antonio Contino, whose uncle Antonio da Ponte designed the Rialto Bridge. It was built in 1600. (from Wikipedia)

I think Tim took this on his way in to Venice, rather than out, but I forgot to post it, and I think it’s a beautiful bridge, with such an interesting history.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime... Sigh.

Le pont des soupirs, As the prisoners crossed that bridge, those 'windows' were the last time they'd see the outside before going to jail!

I have also seen it from inside following the route the prisoners did from the Court to the Jail.V
