Davul and zurna, Ankara

These men are going around the neighborhood playing the traditional davul and zurna announcing Kurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice), one of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. We were a bit taken aback during our first year in Ankara when sheep were sacrificed right in front of our apartment building, but I seem to recall that was banned in the cities due to Turkey’s attempts to join the EU.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.

That must have been a culture shock. It is interesting to see them playing their instruments. Nice street scene, v

There is so much to learn about other peoples cultures. But I don't think of snow when I think of
the country of Turkey. Nicely captured.
