Since I don’t know if we’ll be able to get down to the Tidal Basin, ringed by Washington’s famed cherry trees (too many people, too much traffic, no place to park), I thought I’d post this screen shot from the cherry blossom festival’s Bloomcam while the blossoms were in full bloom. The festival is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the gifting of Sakura, or cherry trees, to Washington, D.C., by the mayor of Tokyo in 1912. There are now 3,700 flowering cherries on the National Mall, and going down to the Tidal Basin to walk among them is enjoyed by Washingtonians and tourists alike.
