Mays Hall, Howard University

I’ve never been to the main campus of Howard University, a private, federally chartered historically Black research university in Washington, D.C., and the alma mater of Kamala Harris, but we came across a campus in Brookland (Northeast Washington) and found this striking building.

From their website:

“Designed by noted architect Chester Oakley, this 1931 Franciscan Seminary was renamed Benjamin Elijah Mays Hall in honor of the noted minister, activist and former Dean of the Howard University School of Divinity. It contains approximately 110,000 square feet and its previous uses included a library, classrooms, chapel, dormitory, cafeteria and recreational spaces.”

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Without all the ornamentation this building would look like a prison, but with those details it is very appealing. Well captured.

A lovely photograph a all in composition with beautiful resolution.
The entrance is impressive as the architecture as a whole.
Verticals perfect and a nice sky with soft cotton ball clouds.

excellent comp showing an interesting side of the structure...that's a worthwhile repurposing of the place to make it a university..
