Patrolling in booties

There were police dogs everywhere. I asked one of the officers why the dogs were wearing booties, and he said, “Because the pavement is 150 degrees today.”

I imagine that was true, but it was obvious the dogs didn’t much like them and were sort of prancing down the street in their unwanted footwear.

On Friday, I walked to the US Capitol, where Senator John McCain was lying in state. It’s not like me to do something like this, but like many Americans I mourned the passing of a true patriot and man of honor. Throughout the day some 16,000 people waited in a line that doubled and tripled an entire city block, in blistering heat, for a chance to pay their last respects to McCain in the Rotunda.

I didn’t go in as I had a camera with me, which was prohibited, plus I was dressed in shorts, which would have been disrespectful, so I stayed outside and paid my respects from there and also took some pictures of the crowd.

Respect, posted earlier:

Oh, poor dog with those booties, but also good for the police to recognize the problem of hot pavements and give the dogs protection. Interesting and excellent shot. V

I’m glad the dog’s feet were covered. Although he looks uncomfortable. Great detail. V

That's the first time I have seen a police dog with booties on. A good idea but he doesn't look thrilled! Nice catch. V

Nicely observed and captured Helen. I'm wondering if they can actually run in those booties to give chase?

Very nice police dog, though looks unusual in booties. V.

This is a very unique capture Helen, I'm sure not very many people would have seen police dogs in booties! V

prancing indeed, just looking at the footwork...cool (literally) idea to protect their feet...the office must be slowed down by all that gear too..

Nice shot of the booties

That is hot enough to blister their feet.. I'm glad they care enough to do that for them!

I agree about Sen McCain, and I'm not from the US
