This egg, crafted by Cartier in 1906, was based on similar designs by Fabergé that were shown at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900. The Paris City Council presented the egg as a gift to the czar in Moscow in 1912.
I wish the picture were better, but it’s the best I could do under the circumstances in several attempts.

We returned once again to the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, legendary heiress of General Foods, diplomat, philanthropist and distinguished collector of French and Russian art and jewelry. We wanted to see a Fabergé exhibit going on there and also enjoyed walking through the grounds and hothouse to and from.
