Way of the Cross Church (1897), now The Sanctuary condos

The Way of the Cross Church, built in 1897 (by most accounts) and purchased in February 2016, was converted into 30 condo units and is now known as The Sanctuary, one of whose units sold for $1,525,000 in May 2017, making it the highest priced condo sale in Northeast Washington since 2008.

I highly recommend taking a look at these for some shots of the interiors, which look stunning: http://dc.curbed.com/2017/5/25/15675928/capitol-hill-condo-sanctuary and http://dc.curbed.com/2016/10/31/13478066/capitol-hill-church-sanctuary

Thanks to Raymond, this site http://rubingroupdc.com/project/281/the-sanctuary/ has some outstanding interior captures.

That is one way to save this elegant building. I wonder how they re-purposed the tower. I also wonder what the occupancy rate is at those costs. The change between the building's old purpose and its new purpose is somewhat ironic.

Very interesting to see how these fine old buildings are being restored and given a new purpose.

What a beautiful building ~ I have a double feeling about the restoration ... sad it is condos, but very glad it is restored with much exterior flavour! Super capture and thanks for the background info here Helen.... V

Oh my gosh, I want to live there, they're beautiful! So sad I'm not rich. I'll bet parking is still a problem though. V

Definitely a high price neighborhood, but such a neat place to live. Great angle of capture and I like the ample DOF that gives me a view down the streets.

the conversion doesn't seem to have harmed the exterior
