Aspendos ancient theatre

The theatre at Aspendos, an ancient city of Pamphylia, Asia Minor, some 40 kilometers east of Antalya, was built in 155 by the Greek architect Zenon and is known as the best-preserved theatre of antiquity. The Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival offers an annual season of productions in the theatre in the spring and early summer.

Very nice shot. When I went to Side about 3 years ago I couldn't have chance to visit this most impressive Roman theatre again as it wasn't open to visitors due to renovation. (Hopefully they will not over-renovate it). V

So amazing to realize how ancient this is and still in use. What's the lifetime of modern day arena... probably not more than 50 years, if that.... Love that you share so many interesting places.

looks a fantastic place and with a more intimate feel than on some of the open amphitheatres

I love these ancient theatres. This one is amazingly well preserved considering its age. Hard to believe they built such magnificent structures so long ago. V
