We took a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram during our long stay there, something, like the Japanese garden, that we had never done before in all the many years we have been visiting Tim’s family in Portland. The tram travels a horizontal distance of 3,300 feet (1,000 m) and a vertical distance of 500 feet (150 m) in a ride that lasts three minutes, traveling from the South Waterfront neighborhood to OHSU Hospital. Although intended for commuters to the hospital, it is open to the public and has become quite a tourist attraction for great views of the city.
Mount Adams is in the distance, with four of Portland’s many bridges over the Willamette River in view, and a slice of Mount. St. Helens is to the far right. I can even see that very ugly building I posted the other day http://www.pbase.com/helenpb/image/163820799 at the end of one of them (lower center left of the picture). It almost looks worse from the top of this hill.
