We stopped at Sauvie Island, situated 10 miles north of Portland, the largest island in the Columbia River and one of the largest islands in the United States. It was beautiful and a lovely place for a leisurely drive. Part of the island is a wildlife refuge, while the rest hosts rural agriculture and residential enclaves.
A view of Mount Hood, located in Oregon, about 50 miles from Portland. I kept trying to photograph the three mountains that can be seen from Portland, but really, with no long lens and not able to get much closer, they look pretty small. Still, they were impressive and such unusual scenery for me!
Mount Adams, posted earlier.
