The grand mausoleum of Moulay Ismail was built in the 17th century in Meknes, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. The burial chamber, part of which is shown here, contains the remains of the sultan as well as his wife and son.
We’re in Fes today and will spend the day exploring the famed medina (old city). I read somewhere it’s the largest walled city in the world, with more than 9,000 streets (really alleyways or less). Our driver said not to venture out on our own because it would take him weeks to find us (and he grew up in the medina here).
